Let's take notes while listening!

Strategy 2: Use symbols and abbreviations

Instructions:

In order to write down information during a lecture quickly, you can use symbols and abbreviations instead of writing every word in full.

Symbols: Many come from the field of mathematics, for example:

< (less than)

∴(therefore, so) ,

≠(different from),

↑(increase)

Abbreviations: Good note takers also shorten long or frequently occurring words, for example:

e.g. (for example)

gov't (government)

infor. (information)

a.m. (before noon)

You can adopt some common symbols and abrreviations, and also invent your owns.
